About Mercy School Institute

In 1999, members of Oklahoma City’s Muslim community came together to address the need for an Islamic educational institution. They envisioned a place where Muslim youth could learn and practice Islamic values beyond the limits of Saturday School. What began with just twelve students in a small office building has now grown into Mercy School Institute, serving 500 students today.

Mercy School is dedicated to nurturing well-rounded American Muslims who are prepared to positively contribute to society. As one of the few Islamic schools in Oklahoma, it provides both a challenging academic program and a comprehensive Islamic education.

Mercy School Institute serves the educational needs of the Edmond, OKC, and Norman areas. The student body is culturally diverse with a population that is 50% Asian, 35% White, 9% Multiracial, and 6% Black or African American. The study body consists of 52% male and 48% female. The staff population is 21.6% Asian, 45.9% White, 10.8% Middle Eastern, 18.9% Black or African American, 5.4% Native American, and 5.4% Hispanic/Latino. The staff consists of 14% male and 86% female.
Mercy School Institute is a comprehensive K-12 private school enrolling 424 students in grades PK-4 through 12th. The school opened in 1999 and graduated its first senior class in 2013. Mercy School Institute is accredited by Cognia and holds membership in the Council of Islamic Schools in North America (CISNA).

The academic program is organized on a period schedule. Six credits per year is the minimum course load. Students in grades 1-10 take seven 52-minute classes. Juniors take five 52-minute classes and up to two concurrent courses per semester. Seniors take three 52-minute classes and up to three concurrent courses per semester.
Concurrent courses taken include: English Composition, Geography, Government, US History, Psychology, Trigonometry, Calculus, Film Studies, Biology, and Chesmitry. Entry into the concurrent program requires a 21 composite ACT score and 19 ACT subject subscores.

F – Failure 60 or below 0
GPA is computed using the above quality points. Beginning with grade nine, all subjects, whether passed or failed, are included in the computation. A minimum of 24 credits is required for high school graduation. In addition, high school students must complete a yearly 30-hour community service graduation requirement. Concurrent Enrollment courses are weighted by one-half credit. Grades are recorded on the transcript.
