Health records are maintained for each
student. Parents need to notify the school office when immunizations
are given by the family physician. A child who is ill should not
be sent to school. Children with running noses, sneezing, coughing,
fever; etc. should stay home until symptoms disappear to prevent
other children from becoming ill also. (Do not return your child
to school until the fever has been gone 24 hours.) Children requiring
medication should stay at home because the staff is not permitted
to administer medication. When a child becomes ill at school he/she
is sent to the office and the guardian will be called to take the
child home. In case of injury, if the parent or family physician
cannot be reached, the child will be taken to the emergency room
of one of the nearest hospitals. We will use the hospital designated
by the child’s physician if known. MERCY SCHOOL DOES NOT ASSUME
RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PAYMENT OF HOSPITAL OR DOCTOR FEES.
Children should be kept at home at least
24 hours after:
- vomiting/diarrhea stops
- fever becomes
- normal antibiotic regimen has started
for strep-throat
Students diagnosed with head or body
lice will be sent home and may return to school the day after treatment
to remove this lice is given.
Chicken-pox: A child who is diagnosed
as having chicken-pox will be sent home. They may not return to
school until after the pox has dried up and is no longer contagious.
This will take approximately 9 days. Young children need 10-12 hours
of sleep each night. Parents have the responsibility to see that
their children go to bed early on school nights and waken early
enough in the morning to eat a nourishing breakfast in a calm, well
organized atmosphere, without being rushed. To aim your child at
being asleep between 8:00-9:00 pm and up in the morning between
6:00-7:00 am, in plenty time to dress and eat breakfast is a good
plan to keep to.
